You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Salvation Army Food Shelf and Community Meals: You can help nourish families and individuals in Freeborn County by volunteering at The Salvation Army. Volunteers are needed 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. any weekday to fill food boxes of about 25 pounds. Others will help between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. one or more days a week to prepare, serve, clean up or visit with folks coming for the noon meal. Come try it out or shadow another helper. You can set a schedule in the week that works for you or offer to be an on-call helper. Please call Capt. Lee or Ron Meyer at The Salvation Army 373-8776.

The Rock: There are lots of ways to help kids. Do some of the behind-the-scenes work at The Rock or answer phones between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. one day a week, help with mailings twice a month, or just bring in home-baked cookies or bars once in a while. Call Robin at 373-1015 to help.

Meal deliveries at Senior Towers: Could you offer an hour a couple times a month to deliver meals at Senior Towers? All locations are in the Senior Towers so weather causes fewer concerns. Please call Pat at RSVP/Senior Resources 377-7433 to get more details.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
