GLENVILLE — Audiences will recognize the tunes, but they might learn some things from the lyrics they forgot while attending Glenville-Emmons’ production of “Schoolhouse Rock Live!”

The musical show involves well-known tunes such as “Conjunction Junction,” “I’m Just A Bill,” and combines them with a storyline about a nervous first-time teacher who watched TV to calm his nerves before his first day of school.

The play highlights songs from the Saturday morning cartoon that originated in the 1970s and taught grammar, math, science, politics and more through songs. Teachers Mike Hockert and Sheila Rame co-direct the show. They first found out how many students would be interested in performing before picking the show.

“I like the fact that a lot of the students, parents and audience will recognize the tunes,” Hockert said.

The main character, Tom Mizer, has alter egos who perform and help give him confidence to start his first day as a teacher. The alter egos are all performed by different students.

The cast includes Cameron Nelson, who plays Tom Mizer, Spencer Krier, who plays George, Katie Hanson, who plays Dori, Bricelyn Nelson, who plays Shulie, Derrick Kraushaar, who plays Joe, Carissa Nelson, who plays Dina, Jenni Golbuff, as a soloist, and choir members Faith Attig, Jasmine Brewer, Zoe Oudekerk and Kennedy Severtson. Fourth-graders through 11th-graders from Glenville-Emmons are featured in the show.

“Schoolhouse Rock Live!” will be performed on the stage in the gymnasium at Glenville-Emmons High School at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 13. Tickets are $5.
