GLENVILLE — Students at Glenville Emmons Elementary School received a lesson in environmental stewardship Wednesday, while contributing to the beauty of their school grounds.
The students helped plant five trees around the school — three autumn blaze maples, an American linden and a Japanese lilac.
The effort received funding from ITC Midwest through its “Right Tree, Right Place” tree-planting program. ITC Midwest owns and operates high-voltage electric transmission lines in the area.
“ITC Midwest is pleased to partner with the school and the students in this education and environmental effort,” said ITC Midwest Local Government and Community Affairs Area Manager Lori Broghammer. “We developed the ‘Right Tree, Right Place’ program to help teach young people about the value of planting trees, and doing it where those trees won’t interfere with power lines or other obstacles.”
In addition to ITC Midwest, the students were helped by students from the Glenville High School FFA. Performance Landscaping in Albert Lea assisted with digging the holes and delivered the trees for planting.
