Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea will present Taking Control, a special diabetes program that focuses on helping people with diabetes understand the importance of controlling their blood sugar and the choices they have in managing their diabetes. The program is free and is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday on their Health Reach campus, 1705 S.E. Broadway.
Terry Wiley, an AC1 Champion, will address three main themes: how does it matter, it’s up to you, and you are not alone. The Champions group encourages others with diabetes to take the step to better blood sugar control. Topics covered include:
• Wiley’s personal story about living with diabetes and learning to control blood sugar
• What A1C is and why it matters
• Making choices that can help you reach your blood sugar goals
• Having a positive attitude
• Developing healthy habits
• Communicating with your health care team
• Setting blood sugar goals – and a plan for reaching them
• Resources and support for people with diabetes
