ROCHESTER — A brief lockdown has ended at Mayo High School in Rochester after a student allegedly pointed a novelty replica gun at students and staff.

The 15-year-old boy allegedly brandished the plastic gun in a stairwell at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Principal Tom Olson says a staff member saw the gun and called the school’s office, leading to a lockdown that lasted about a minute.

A student liaison officer took the student into custody with help from school staff. Classes resumed, and no injuries were reported.

The principal says the replica firearm does not shoot any projectiles but instead shocks the person holding it when the trigger is pulled.
