ERHARD – A rural Erhard man defended himself against two aggressive pigs on his property Tuesday, shooting and killing the animals after they charged his wife earlier that day.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Lynn Harlow called the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office to report that he had killed two pigs owned by his neighbor. Harlow said his wife, Wendy, had gone outside earlier that day at their home on County Highway 43, east of Big Stone Lake. However, once she was out of the house with the couple’s small dog, she saw two pigs.
When the pigs spotted her, Harlow said, they charged. His wife managed to retreat to the safety of the garage before the pigs reached her, but they rubbed up against the garage door after she was inside.
Later that day, Lynn Harlow returned home. When he learned about the pig attack, he took a gun and went out looking for the animals. He eventually located them on his property, and he told law enforcement that when they saw him, they ran at him as well. He shot them as they were charging.
Law enforcement investigation is ongoing.
