Rebels girls place 6th at state

Emily Mantor led the United South Central girls’ cross country team to a sixth-place finish Saturday in the Class A state cross country meet in Northfield.

The sophomore finished in 15th place in 15 minutes and 30.8 seconds for the Rebels, who finished in the top half of the 16-team field at St. Olaf College.

Hannah Goemann joined Mantor as the lone Rebels who also advanced to state as individuals and placed 28th in 15:49.5.

USC’s Bethany Koziolek finished 35th in 16:06.6, and senior Andree Escherich took 48th in 16:19.3. Ninth-grader Amber Klein rounded out the Rebels’ top five in 77th in 17:12.1.

The Rebels’ finished with 203 points and finished behind Section 2A rival Waseca, who placed fifth with 154 points. USC’s average time was 16:11.7.

St. Cloud Cathedral won the girls’ Class A championship with 94 points, and sophomore Clare Flanagan, of Blake, was the individual champion in 14.21.7. Fanagan finished 13 seconds ahead of Cannon Fall’s Emily Trost.

The Rebels boys’ team sent one individual to state, senior Dylan Baumann, who placed 50th in 17:18.6.

Baumann ran an average mile time of 5.11.09 and finished one second behind Waseca’s Jesse Delgado.

St. Cloud Cathedral edged Perham by one point to win the Class A boys’ championship, and senior Bryon Schuldt, of Nevis, was the individual champ in 15:55.3.
