Series of Advent recitals to start

Throughout the Advent season, there will be a series of Advent recitals at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The recitals start at 12:15 p.m. and are about a half hour long. Guests are welcome to bring a lunch and enjoy the festive music. The recitals are free and open to the public.

Musicians include:

Wednesday: Bob Tewes, organist

Dec. 7: Orrie Jirele, violinist

Dec. 14: First Lutheran women’s chorus

Dec. 21: Sue Jorgensen, soprano

 

Christmas concert planned

At 7 p.m. on Dec. 4, the Southeastern Minnesota Chamber Orchestra, the First Lutheran Chamber and handbell choirs and the Albert Lea Community Chorus will present a concert filled with the music of the season. Music spanning types and time periods from classical to contemporary will be presented. There will be selections from Handel’s “Messiah,” numerous traditional carols and contemporary selections like Josh Groban’s “Believe.” It will be a concert for the whole family.

Tickets are available at First Lutheran Church, Doyle’s Hallmark and Marshall Street Music. Tickets are $8 for seniors and $10 for adults in advance or $12 at the door. There is no charge for students high school age and younger. Sponsorships are also available that entitle you to reserve your seat.
