WCDA hands out $834,000

NORTHWOOD — A total $834,070.23 in grants were awarded Tuesday by the Worth County Development Authority for projects in Worth County, as well as regional awards.

The awards included $120,789.74 for American Legion Post 110 in Manly and a grant for $115,377.90 for phase III work on a Fertile city complex, WCDA Executive Director Kim Koenigs announced.

Eight of the awards were to projects outside Worth County.

Nine awards were also given to nine food banks.

A surprise grant of $100,000 was given to the Forest City Community School District, Koenigs said. Details of how the funds would be used were not known prior to the award Tuesday evening.

 

Worth County Awards:

• American Legion Post 110, Manly – Building addition, $120,789.74.

• City of Fertile – Fertile complex, Phase III, $115,377.90.

• Bolan Schoolhouse – Rehab Plase II, $85,153.

• City of Grafton – Volley/tennis/basketball courts, $58,109.91.

• First Lutheran Church, Northwood – tuck pointing, Phase III, $50,000.

• Worth County Beautification – cement project, $45,350.

• City of Kensett – standby generator, $38,138.99.

• VFW Post 6779, Northwood – roof renovation, $31,224.70.

• Silver Lake Lutheran Church – windspire generator and base, $22,400.

• VFW Post 6779, Northwood – dining room, storage renovation, $21,146.

• City of Hanlontown – park fitness equipment, $14,996.

• City of Hanlontown – loader attachments, $12,500.

• Kensett Public Library – Beacon Automation System, $9,944.

• Grafton Public Library – technology and improvements, $8,078.80.

• Kensett Lions Club – Bingo replacement equipment, $2,179.30.

• Manly Public Library – TVs and DVDs, $1,607.92.

• Worth County Extension – Power Point projector, $1,220.

Total: $638,216.26.

 

Regional Awards

• City of Carpenter – Community Center renovation, Phase II, $13,793.75.

• Hospice of North Iowa – gardens and gazebo, $10,000.

• City of Leland – Community Center/City Hall, $7,930.

• Mason City-Clear Lake Electrical Railroad – Lyon Tender Tank painting, $6,472.42.

• Kum-A-Long Senior Community Center – handicapped auto doors, $4,119.80.

• Shell Rock Township – new windows, $2,538.

• Globe Gazette Cheer Fund – $2,000.

• Glenville Community Recreational Center – lawn mower, $1,500.

Total: $48,353.97.

 

North Iowa food banks/charities grants:

• God’s Pantry, Garner.

• Austin Salvation Army.

• Freeborn County Salvation Army.

• Mitchell County Food Bank.

• Cerro Gordo Community Kitchen, Mason City.

• Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank, Mason City.

• Worth-Manna, Northwood.

• Winnebago Neighborhood Food Bank.

• Floyd County-Messiah Food Pantry.

• The Forest City School District also received a surprise grant award of $100,000.

Grand total: $834,070.23.

 

Organizations that did not receive a grant award are encouraged to reapply in January.

Applications are available Jan. 1, 2012, and due Feb. 15, 2012, to be awarded April 15, 2012.

The next round of grants will be awarded Nov. 15, 2012. Applications for those grants will be available Aug. 1, 2012 and due Sept. 15, 2012.
