You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Adult Basic Education: You can help adults who are English language learners as they work on completing GED and other classes for citizenship. Classes are from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from noon to 2 p.m. at Brookside. Please call Adult Basic Education at 379-4866 to lend a hand. Gentle persons are also needed in the child care room to read and play with preschool children while parents are learning English skills.

RSVP Knitters Need Supplies: We’ve exhausted our supply of yarns for knitting and crocheting into caps and mittens. Please bring any yarn lost in your closet to the RSVP office at Senior Resources, 1659 W. Main St., Skyline Plaza, Albert Lea. You may call us at 377-7433.

Salvation Army Food Pantry: Families and individuals seeking nourishing foods in Freeborn County need your help at The Salvation Army food pantry. Two volunteers are needed from 12:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays to help with food boxes. Come try it out by shadowing another helper; you can set a schedule for a Monday or Friday that works for you. Please call The Salvation Army at 373-8776 to get started.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
