Two local organizations have stepped up to match funds on two days this week for the Albert Lea Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.
Local Salvation Army officials said Friday The Growing Hope Foundation and the Western Star Masonic Lodge have committed to matching funds on Thursday and Friday.
Between the two organizations, they have set aside $6,800 to be used as a match.
Capt. Jim Brickson said this is the first year this approach has been used in an attempt to meet or even exceed the Christmas goal.
The organization is aiming to raise $202,000. Brickson said Friday the campaign is lagging behind last year’s pace.
Money raised goes to support local families in need of food, temporary shelter, rental and fuel assistance and budget counseling to help families achieve economic independence, to name a few of the services.
