The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433 also 800-642-1875.

Headstart and English Language Learners: Come in to the Brookside Education Center and read stories to preschoolers or work with adults learning English. Classes are in session Monday through Thursday, late morning and early afternoon. You can call for Penny Jahnke at 379-4867 to schedule a time that works best. Papas and men are especially needed.

Bellringers: You can be a bell ringer, too, for The Salvation Army helping to fill the kettle to provide gifts making Christmas a better time for area residents. It’s a two-hour shift at Nelson’s Market Place, Shopko, Walmart or indoors at Hy-Vee and Northbridge Mall. Add your name to the schedule by calling 373-8776 at The Salvation Army.

Community Mentor Connection, STARS: It’s a priceless gift for children ages 7 to 15 who are hoping for an adult mentor that can spend some quality time with them. The STARS program offers training and organizes activities you two can participate in together. You can participate and help make a difference in the life of a child! Carolyn Smith coordinates this program; please call 507-383-5272 to learn more.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, Minnesota Board on Aging and Corporation for National and Community Services.
