You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

St. John’s Lutheran Home: Be a bingo caller for Knutson Place, try your hand at painting fingernails of residents or go shopping for or with residents. When you help make life more enjoyable for residents, it refreshes you as well. Your contact for St. John’s Lutheran Home is at 473-1028.

Stocking Stuffers: Just ask at Raleigh’s Ace Hardware, 2525 Bridge Ave., Albert Lea, for the RSVP stocking stuffer size first aid kits equipped for your outdoor person, traveler or home emergencies. The modest purchase price makes a donation to RSVP for Freeborn County. Remember, it’ll fit into anyone’s stocking hung up for Christmas gifting and you are helping the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at the same time.

Respite caregivers: Family Caregivers Network needs people or couples who can sit with care receivers for a couple hours on various occasions. This allows the principal caregiver to get out for their personal care appointments, to do grocery shopping and revitalize their energies. Training and guidance are provided. Time requirement is up to three hours a week; just call Nancy at 377-7433.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
