You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Senior Resources /AARP tax aide: Our tax preparers need phone receptionists to set appointments for individuals coming to file taxes in 2012. Volunteer receptionists can select the days or half days that work best for them starting Jan. 6 with a training of the script to be used. This tax filing assistance makes all the difference for moderate to limited income households. Call Pat at 377-7433 to start your training.

Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea: Your presence is a gift to residents any day and particularly when they have medical appointments. As a medical escort, you meet the resident at the clinic to help them. Other volunteer options include assisting with special programs and activities or daily needs. Please contact Stacy Johnson at 379-2716 to begin making brighter days ahead. Background checks and TB tests will be provided.

RSVP first aid kits: Just ask at Raleigh’s Ace Hardware, 2525 Bridge Ave., Albert Lea, for the RSVP pocket size first aid kits equipped for your outdoor person, traveler or home emergencies. The modest purchase price makes a donation to RSVP for Freeborn County. Remember, it’ll fit for any age gifting and you are helping the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at the same time.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
