Bernard Holway, 80, Wells

Bernard (Bub) W. Holway, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 2011, at his home in Wells.

Bub was born to Bernard S. & Clara (Freihage) Holway on Aug. 20, 1931, in Omaha, Neb.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Kathryn (Katy) (Rathai) Holway; his two sons: Leslie (Les) and wife Melissa Holway of Oxford, Iowa, and Scott and wife, Maggie Holway, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren: Christopher Holway, Dana Dacus and Mitchell Rath-Sandburg; three great-grandchildren: Danielle, Zachery and Jacob; four sisters: June Rose Jordahl and husband Leo of Cherokee, Iowa, Maryanne Theede Monson of Lewiston, Judy O’Neal and husband, Mike, of Cherokee, Iowa, and Pam Holcomb of Cherokee, Iowa; and two brothers: Frank Holway and wife Sharon of Bullhead City, Ariz., Mike Howald and wife Sue of Forestville, Wis., and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Bub graduated from Wells High School in 1950 holding the mile record for 20 years. He joined the United States Marines in 1950, serving in Korea 1951-52. He was a proud Marine and loved hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons.

Visitation with family will be held at 10 a.m. with Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells.
