Dorothy Nelson, 90, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Dorothy Jane Nelson, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Dorothy died on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was 90 years of age.

Dorothy was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Benjamin and Palma (Knutson) Loeffler. She graduated from Albert Lea High School. On July 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lauris (Lolly) Nelson at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

Dorothy was a lifetime resident of Freeborn County and was an active member of First Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school and serving in the church circle. She had been employed by Wilson & Co. for many years.

Dorothy was a member of Sorority, Bridge Club, Birthday Club and the Eternal Youth Group. She enjoyed golf, playing piano, dancing, winters in Arizona and animals. Many summers were spent at the Nisswa Beach Resort with many family friends. Her Norwegian heritage was important as were her many trips with Lolly and friends. Above all, family and her granddaughters were the love of her life.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lolly, of Albert Lea, son David and his wife, Michele, of Albert Lea, granddaughters; Katie, Alyssa and Kristen Nelson, cousin Shirley Ann Hanson of Albert Lea, and other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and brother Lemoyne Loeffler.
