Grace Johnson, 93, Alden

Grace Luella Johnson, age 93, of Alden, formerly of Pilot Grove Township, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., at East Chain Evangelical Free Church in East Chain. Burial will be in East Chain Evangelical Free Cemetery. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at the church. Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Blue Earth is assisting the family with the arrangements. Grace Johnson

Grace, the daughter of Clarence and Myrtle (Linnel) Holm, was born July 20, 1918, in Pilot Grove Township, Faribault County. She attended country school No. 125 and graduated from East Chain High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Kermit E. Johnson on Sept. 2, 1939. The couple farmed the Holm Century Farm in Pilot Grove Township until their retirement. For health reasons they moved to Alden, and Grace was a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea for the past 5 1/2 years.

Grace was a lifetime member of East Chain Evangelical Free Church, women’s ministries, taught Sunday School and was a choir member. She had a gift for writing and gave many readings.

Grace was a loving, compassionate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The coffee pot was always on, and she loved sharing food with family, friends and neighbors. Many laughs and stories were shared around the table.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Candace (Neil) Pierce of Alden; two grandchildren, Holli Pierce and Bryan Pierce both of Brooklyn Center; one great-grandchild, Jasmine Pierce; two nieces, Gail Banke and husband, Ron, and Sharon Bertlin and husband, LeRoy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kermit, in 2008; nieces, Janice Anderson and Marlene Kusick.
