Snowfall is expected to start tonight and increase Friday morning before tapering off in the afternoon.

“Snowfall amounts will range from 3 to 5 inches, with the heaviest along the Iowa border,” the advisory states.

Bitter cold settled into Minnesota and Wisconsin with temperatures expected to stay below zero today in many regions.

Some schools delayed classes two hours because of the bitter cold, including those in Bemidji, Montevideo, Park Rapids and Somerset, Wis. The National Weather Service issued an extreme cold warning for most of Minnesota, where daytime highs may only reach 10 below to the north.
