Jerome Rognes, 92, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in rural Joice, Iowa, with the Rev. Kevin Olson officiating. Visitation wwas from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills and then again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Cemetery in rural Joice.
Jerome Rognes was born on Jan. 9, 1920, in Winnebago County, Iowa, son of Alfred and Jenette (Bye) Rognes. He was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in 1935 and graduated from Joice High School in 1939. At a young age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.
Jerome married Mavis V. Olson an April 14, 1943, in Mason City, Iowa.
Jerome farmed in the Joice, Leland and Emmons area until a farming accident in 1968. Upon leaving the farm, he worked at the Lake Mills Light Plant and drove a school bus for the Lake Mills Community Schools.
He has lived in Lake Mills since 1973 and moved into the Lake Mills Care Center in February 2008.
Jerome was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Mavis, of the Lake Mills Care Center; 10 children: Jerald (Susan) Rognes of Lake Mills, Janice (Ronald) Eyster, Marilyn (Garry) Kubat, both of Longmont, Colo., Harvey (LaDonna) Rognes of Lake Mills, Lucy (Thomas) Bissell of Denver, Colo., Larry (Barbara) Rognes of Albert Lea, Vivian (David) Bjornlie of Detroit Lakes, Warren Rognes of Ankeny, Iowa, Ronald (Linda) Rognes of Albert Lea and Julie (Steven) Nelson of St. Joseph; 26 grandchildren: Denise, Jackie, Bob, Jeremy, Amy, Amber, Melanie, Melinda, Kim, Jenette, Beth, Kelly, Andy, Nick, Jenny, Dan, Kristen, Jesse, Nicole, Cody, Austin, Ethan, Evan, Quentin, Stephanie and Eric; 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; three brothers: Oswald (Muriel) Rognes of Lake Mills, Iowa, Byford (Colleen) Rogness of Emmons and Ray (Loretta) Rognes of Tampa, Fla., three sisters: Junice Bang of Oviedo, Fla., Rosella Purcell of Lakeland, Fla., and Norma (George) Barville of Batavia, Ill.; brother-in-law, Royden (Virginia) Olson of Des Moines, Iowa, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Josephine; a brother, Alfred Rognes Jr.; two brothers-in-law: J.D. Bang and Dale Purcell; a sister-in-law, Irene Olson; and Mavis’ parents Elmer and Pearl Olson.
