The following are some of the opportunities for volunteers of any age currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Chess Club Coach: Calling all chess players to help elementary students learn to play chess and to mentor students in kindergarten through fifth grade who are ready to try new chess strategies. Chess season will be January through April with adult orientation the week of Jan. 9, Brookside School at 1:30 p.m. Please call Sonya Zieske, programs coordinator, 379-5153 for all details.

Martin Luther King Breakfast and Program: The 24th annual Martin Luther King Day program and breakfast will be held at Bethany Hall, First Lutheran Church, from 7 to 8 a.m. on Jan. 16. You can make it a Day of Service rather than a day off in this new year, by helping as a greeter or to serve the continental breakfast and clean up. Please call 377-7433 to volunteer Monday morning at 6:45 a.m.

MN Reading Corps: Have you heard a great story recently, especially one that’s read by an elementary school child? Sibley Elementary School needs two or three more adults who can be that listener for a child’s reading practice. You can call Linda Bottelson at 379-5115 to arrange for reading with a child between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. school days. Remember to leave a message saying when is the best time to return a call to you.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
