On Jan. 21 seven members of the Albert Lea High School band program attended the SEMBDA Honor Band event at Century High School in Rochester.

The students were Katie Appel, clarinet, Addie Fleegel, trumpet, Kayla Overland, trombone, Toby Schmitt, tenor saxophone, Emma Stensrud, baritone saxophone, Emma Tewes, oboe, and Sam Ware, percussion. All are eighth and ninth grade members of the ALHS Tiger Band except Schmitt, who is a 10th grade member of the ALHS Symphonic Band.

The students were nominated by ALHS Director of Bands Suzanne Mauer and chosen based on the instrumentation needs of the groups. The event, put on by the Southeast Minnesota Band Directors Association, is an opportunity for talented young musicians to join together in the performance of quality concert band literature.
