Please feed the animal shelter

I would like to support Christy Forman’s suggestion to give to the local animal shelter and the great work they do. They give direct support and care to many animals and do their best to find homes for pets that have no where else to go.

Unfortunately, the ads that she referred to in her letter from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Human Society of the United States overstate their involvement in direct care for animals in distress. The Humane Society spends less than 1 percent of their budget on direct animal care. The ASPCA spends more on advertising and promotion than the care of animals and enforcement of animal cruelty laws.

They also are centered in larger cities, not rural areas. It bothers me when they use misleading advertising to get donations from concerned individuals who are trusting them to use the money as they have implied.

If you want to help animals, support the local animal shelter. They do a great job.
