Rudella Thompson, 92, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Rudella Rachel (Rentz) Thompson of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea.

The Rev. Joel Vano will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home.

Rudella died on Monday, Feb. 6, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Balaton, to Frank and Susanna (Watry) Rentz. Rudella married Sgt. William Thompson on Jan. 7, 1946, in Wells.

She was raised in Wells and graduated from Wells High School in June 1938. She worked for Musser and Co. until 1943. On Aug. 10, 1943, she enlisted in the Marine Corps in Minneapolis. She was called to active duty Oct. 17, 1943. She took boat training at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and transferred to Cherry Point, N.C. She worked there at the Post Exchange until discharge at Camp Lejeune, N.C., on Nov. 28, 1945.

Rudella is survived by a daughter Sylvia (Roger) Panzer of Albert Lea; a son, Terry Thompson of Albert Lea; four grandchildren: Jon Panzer of Appleton, Julie (Chad) Cornelius of Lakeville, Jeffery Panzer of Albert Lea, and Jason (Rebecca) Panzer of Albert Lea; five great-grandchildren: Maddison and Ethan Cornelius, Chloey and Cayden Silva, Carly Panzer and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband “Tommy” in 1991, a sister and a brother.

She never forgot a holiday, birthday or special day of her family’s, and we will never forget her.
