A celebration of life memorial service to honor Alton Oakland Jr., 52, of Phoenix, Ariz., will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Albert Lea. A lunch will be served at the Albert Lea Moose Club immediately following the service. Alton died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, in Phoenix, Ariz., he was 52 years young.
Alton was born Nov. 26, 1959, in Albert Lea to Alton, Sr. and Alice Oakland. He attended Albert Lea High School.
He spent the last 25 years of his adult life in the Phoenix area as a house and commercial building painter. His passion and love was for family and motorcycles.
Those left to cherish his memory are his father, Alton Sr. and step-mother, Bev; sisters and brother-in-laws: Vickie Nelson of Denver; Karen and Mark Weidner of Allendale, N.J., Brenda Oakland of Albert Lea, Cheryl Horning of Cheshire, Conn., and Mary Jo and B.A. Claussen of Tubac, Ariz. Also left behind are his step siblings: Larry (Mary) Schroader, Ron (Kim) Schrader, Del Schroader and Kari Roisen all of Albert Lea. Alton is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews and 19 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice; step-brother, Daryl; and brother-in-law, Steve.
