Funeral Services for Gloria E. Haugen of Albert Lea will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Scarville, Iowa, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In addition, a public prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service Albert Lea. The Rev. Thomas L. Rank will officiate for both services. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church.

Gloria died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community. She was 74.

Gloria Elaine was born on Oct. 19, 1937, in Scarville, Iowa, the daughter of Gilmer and Annette “Nettie” (Hylland) Anderson.

She attended country school near her home place, and then graduated from Lake Mills High School. She moved to Albert Lea in the late 1950’s, where she met her soul mate, LeMoyne Cornelius, with whom she shared her life. Gloria worked as a housekeeping supervisor at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea for more than 20 years. She spent many years cooking at the Moose Clubs in Austin and Albert Lea. Family and friends will remember her “world famous” cooking skills. Her “perfectionist” mindset was evident, as she worked hard and was meticulous in all her efforts. She was a member of the Center Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Moose and Eagle’s auxiliaries.

Gloria will be sadly missed by her loving companion of more than 50 years, LeMoyne Cornelius; son, Mark (Sandra) Haugen, of Forest City, Iowa; grandchildren: Amanda Haugen of Forest City, Iowa, and Adam Haugen and his fiancé, Britney Kurtzleben, of Mason City, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Alexis Elaine Haugen, of Forest City; special family friend, Trudy “Pete” Donahue, of Albert Lea; brother, Gorden (Kay) Anderson, of Scarville, Iowa; sisters: Arlene (Bernard) Flugum of North English, Iowa, and Dorothy (Roger) Hill of Leland, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She as preceded in death by her parents Gilmer and Annette “Nettie” Anderson.

Interacting with friends and family was the center of Gloria’s life. Memories of her “gift to gab” will forever bring smiles to our faces and will live on in legacy as she has passed this gift onto the generations of her family. Blessed be her memory.
