Mock trial finishes state tournament

Albert Lea’s mock trial team lost twice and won once at the state tournament, which ended Wednesday. They didn’t make it into the championship round that was Wednesday evening in Rochester.

In the first trial Albert Lea was plaintiff against Lakeview Secondary School of Cottonwood and lost. Lakeview received two ballots to Albert Lea’s one, which determines the winner even though the final score was 200 to 185.

In the second trial Albert Lea was plaintiff against Cloquet High School and won. Albert Lea received all three ballots from the judges, and the final score was 215 to 205.

The third trial, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, was against Breck High School, the 2010 national mock trial champions. Albert Lea played defense and lost 240 to 222, when Breck received all three ballots. Breck went on to compete in the championship round.

In other awards, Sergio Salgado received All-State Witness, and Addison Petersen received All-State Lawyer.
