Orlando O. Caliguri, 91, former Michigan and Florida resident died on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Orlando had spent the last several weeks in our area, to be closer to daughter, Carole Bower.

He was born on April 4, 1920, in Sault St. Marie, Mich., the son of Francesco and Rose Marie Caliguri. Orlando proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married his sweetheart Doreen Martin, and they made their home and raised their family in Michigan. He had been a longtime employee of Olsonite Corp. in Hamtramck, Mich. He and Doreen later retired to Florida. She preceded him in death. Orlando was an avid sportsman, especially enjoying golfing and trout fishing. His interests were many, but he appreciated good music and movies. Friends and family have many fond memories of his exceptional cooking talent – he was “the best”. Orlando had a great love for family, his grandchildren being the “Apple’s of his Eye”.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters: Carole Bower of Albert Lea and Kathleen (Snow) Thomas of Pleasant Ridge, Mich; grandchildren: John Orlando (Mollie) Bower of Minneapolis, Paul Anthony (Jessie Saul) Bower of Faribault, Dr. Sara Snow (Allan Pett) of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Jeffrey Thomas (Sara) Snow of Royal Oak, Mich.; great grandchildren: Elizabeth Ellen, Antonia Joy, Karlie and Brady; brother-in-law John Martin of Tacoma, Wash. Also survived by many life long best friends.

In addition to his wife, Doreen, Orlando was preceded in death by his parents, all his brothers and sisters, many loved nieces and nephews and son-in-law Anthony John Bower.

At a later date, family will gather in Michigan for a celebration of Orlando’s life.
