ST. PAUL — Minnesota Senate Republicans are proposing $496 million in building and infrastructure projects around the state.

The GOP bonding proposal is under review this morning in the Senate Capital Investment Committee. It’s considerably smaller than Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton’s $775 million proposal, but a few million dollars less than the total amount of bonding House Republicans want to do this year.

Last week the House GOP proposed a $280 million list of projects and another $220 million to renovate the State Capitol. The Senate alternative puts a much heavier emphasis on individual projects, including $179 million for colleges and universities and $125 million for state asset preservation. The Senate’s proposal for the State Capitol is much smaller at $25 million.
