You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Spring book readers: No foolin’! You can bring a story to life this April 16-20 in the United Way of Freeborn County spring readers project. Call Ann Austin at 373-8670 to pick a school and an elementary class grades kindergarten to third-grade and a date to read the new, locally written and published story, “Timmy Learns a Lesson.” It’s sure to add fun to everyone’s day.

Community Mentor Connection: Children at risk are waiting for mentors who can spend some quality time (up to two hours a week) with them. The program offers training and organizes activities you can participate in together. Help make a difference in the life of a child! Call 379-3409 to learn more.

Freeborn County Cancer Bike-A-Thon: It’s the 40th anniversary ride for the Cancer Bike-A-Thon starting at 6 a.m. May 5 at the Sibley Elementary School warming house. We need your help with registration and hosting return riders. Registration nights are 5 to 7 p.m. May 3 and 4 at the Skyline Plaza. Call LeAnn Juveland 402-6960 to help with the registrations and Pat Stumme at 377-7433 to help host returning riders at the warming house. Let’s make history and fight cancer at the same time!

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
