Burning permits suspended

Extremely dry conditions combined with high wind advisories have prompted the suspension of all permitted burning within Freeborn County.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office sent out a news release Sunday stating the suspension would last until further notice.
The suspension applies only to those fires that are larger than recreational fires and for which a permit is required.
People who contact the Law Enforcement Center will be told that all burning by permit has been suspended. People who elect to burn after being advised not to, or those who burn without a permit, are in violation of Minnesota’s open burning laws and are subject to citation and prosecution. All prohibited fires will be extinguished and associated costs charged to the individual responsible for burning.
The lifting of the permit burning suspension is dependent on improved weather and moisture conditions.
