Co-President Elaine Peterson welcomed everyone to the meeting and led in the reciting of the purpose statement.

Devotions were given by Marge Moine, who in the reading reminded us that we should not be like the radio station WIIFM, which translates into “What’s In It For Me” and pray to God to send rain to water our flowers so we would not have to water them ourselves.

We joined in the singing of “Beautiful Savior.”

Marlene Behle introduced and welcomed our two speakers who were Rita Drescher and Janice Tukua. They both spoke on their experiences when their families were involved in the recent tornadoes, and lost nearly everything they owned. They both related touching stories about their experiences during that time in their lives. Rita related to our ladies that before the tornado hit, the trees turned white, and it was then that they went to the basement as her grandmother had told them years ago that it was time to take cover. Rita said that her son had said after it was all over and they were somewhat back to normal that if anyone asked them to tell what they thought, they needed to say, “If you have an opportunity to be in a tornado, don’t take it.” It was a light moment in a real disaster.

Janice Tukua also related their family’s experience regarding the tornado and showed pictures of their farm before the storm and showed all the trees and buildings that were damaged or gone after the tornado. Her grandson produced a video that won a blue ribbon at the State Fair. It had pictures of all the damage and had a musical background that was very appropriate for the video. The program was excellent and enjoyed by everyone.

Business meeting:

Secretary’s report: The secretary’s report was reviewed and upon motion by Bonnie Schneider, seconded by Bonnie Trampel, the report will be placed on file.

Treasurer’s report: Gen Montei presented the treasurer’s report and stated that Beth Doyle had written a letter to the FLCW stating that she regretfully is submitting her resignation as FLCW treasurer due to her work schedule and changing circumstances.

Gen Montei then reported that the USBank account has now been closed and the other two accounts are with the State Bank of Clarks Grove. Virginia Hermanson graciously accepted the position for the remainder of the year. The FLCW wishes to thank Beth for her many hours spent as FLCW Treasurer and also Virginia Hermanson for volunteering to be treasurer through December 2012. The new 105 coffee cups have arrived now and the old ones wiil be sorted out to see if any of them can be used if we are short when serving.

New business:

Cindy Martin reminded the FLCW that the Freeborn County Fair would be July 3 through Aug. 8. It will be $9 to get into the fair each day other than Sunday if you wish to attend the church services then you can enter free (if you arrive at 10 a.m. or before) and if you wish you can stay for the day.

The group was reminded of the May 9 special program which is the Tea Party. You may wish to use your own tea cup that meant something to you. If you wish, you can also wear gloves and a hat, but that is not essential — just come and have fun!
