NEW RICHLAND — “It was a well-played game by both teams,” Panthers coach Jeff Reese said.

The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva baseball team also shut out the Awesome Blossoms 5-0 during a home game on Monday.

“They have some good athletes,” Reese said about Blooming Prairie. “Their pitcher is only a freshman, but he’s around the strike zone most of the time.”

Reese said the Panthers’ pitcher Mitch Akemann has also been doing well.

“Obviously his control was good,” Reese said. “He had eight strikeouts.”

In the fifth inning the Panthers scored three runs with two outs.

“We just had a couple consecutive hits that really put the game out of reach,” Reese said.
