Police ask for help after burglaries

The Albert Lea Police Department is asking for the public’s help after a recent rash of daytime burglaries.

According to a news release, officers have responded to three burglaries of houses in different areas of the city that have taken place during the daytime hours when the homeowners were away.

A house was reported burglarized at 210 David Ave. at 3:18 p.m. Friday.

A house at 1527 South Shore Drive was reported burglarized Friday evening. An Apple MacBook was reported stolen, along with two green uncut emeralds and a drill set.

A residence at 520 Larimore Circle was reported broken into at 7:26 p.m. Sunday. A TV was stolen.

Out in the county, a laptop was reported stolen from a house at 68708 Freeborn County Road 46, south of Alden, at 2:48 p.m. Sunday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Police are asking people to report anything suspicious during the day or night. They are also encouraging people to meet their neighbors, becoming familiar with the vehicles and people that are around their property on a regular basis.

The release stated daytime burglaries accounted for 51 percent of the reported burglaries in 2010.

People are also encouraged to lock their homes and vehicles.
