50 years ago – 1962

• In their season opener the Albert Lea High School baseball team defeated Fairmont 8-2. John Goodmanson had three hits, and Bob Moyer and Mike O’Conner had two hits each for the Tigers.

• The Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team opened their season with a 350-364 win over Fairmont. Scoring for the Tigers were Dick Jones 83, John Hurst 87, Dick Davies 90 and Dexter Westrum 90.

• The Albert Lea High School boys’ tennis team opened their season with a shutout win over Waseca 7-0. Singles winners for the Tigers were Dave Boyem, Gene Hanson, Bob Jensen, Curt Pickavance and John Jensen. Doubles team winners were Boyem and Pickavance and the team of Hanson and Jensen.

 

25 years ago – 1987

• The Albert Lea High School boys’ track and field team won a triangular with 75 points to Rochester Mayo’s 55 points and Owatonna’s 54. Winning events for the Tigers were Steve Bangh in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash, Greg Deyak in the 110 high hurdles, Kevin Schiltz in the shot put, Tony Gatica in the long jump and Ham Peterson in the triple jump. Also placing first was the 1,600-meter relay of Bangh, Tim Navarro, David Rowe and Tim Ulrich.

• The Albert Lea High School girls’ golf team raised their season record to 3-1 with a 200-219 win over Mankato East. Jana Helie, Debbie Kroc, Melissa Bloom and Julie Narverud all shot 50.

• Junior Dan Lee threw a three hitter for the Albert Lea High School boys’ baseball team in their 4-1 victory over Mankato East.

10 years ago – 2002

• Isaac Walton threw a one hitter and had 11 strike outs for the Albert Lea High School baseball team in their 1-0 win over Austin.

• The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ softball team defeated Alden-Conger 10-0. Erin Anderson pitched a no-hitter and had three hits for NRHEG.

• Matt Learn was the winning pitcher for the Glenville-Emmons baseball team in their 20-3 victory over Alden-Conger. Paul Kleven and Nick Flatness each had two hits for the Wolverines.
