USD student places 14th in track and field meet

DES MOINES — University of South Dakota junior Ethan Marquardt ran a time of 30 minutes and 36.62 seconds in the men’s 10,000-meter run during a track and field competition on Thursday at Drake University.

Marquardt, a 2008 graduate of Albert Lea High School, beat his personal record by 25 seconds. He finished in 14th place ahead of runners from Georgia, Nebraska and Bradley.

As the meet continued on Friday, Marquardt was part of the Coyote’s 4×1,600-meter relay team that won the race and set a school record of 16:59.62. Other runners on the Coyote’s team were Jeff Mettler, Travis Brenner and Jacob Evenson.
