Wayne Wahlers, 81, Austin

Wayne Fredrick Wahlers, 81, of Austin, died at his home on Saturday, April 7, 2012.

Wayne was born on June 14, 1930, in Albert Lea to Arthur and Amalia (Schuhmacher) Wahlers. He grew up near Myrtle. On April 8, 1951, Wayne married Arcley Lau at Glenville First Lutheran Church.

Wayne served in the United States Marine Corp from December 1951 to December 1953. Upon returning from the service, he and Arcley moved to Austin where he worked for the Austin Grain Co. and Double K Specialty.

Wayne is survived by his wife Arcley Wahlers of Austin; daughters: Jody LeVasseur (Ross Dettmann) of Austin, Jayne (Kevin) Perrault of L’Anse, Mich.; son, Gregory Wahlers (Sharona Joseph) of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren: Emerlee (John) Gorman of Lincoln, Neb., Michael (Karen) Perrault, Marquette, Mich., Natalie Perrault of Petoskey, Mich., Andrew (Abby) LeVasseur of Rochester and Daniel Perrault of Houghton, Mich.; great-grandchildren: Braden and Colin Gorman and baby Perrault; sisters: Iris Bighley of Albert Lea, Lois Brandt (Babe) of Albert Lea and Melba Jenkins of Lime Springs, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Elaine Gillard of Glenville and Esther (Laverne) Walhiem of Glenville; brothers-in-law: Arvid (Marge) Lau of Austin and Robert (Mary) Lau of Duluth; many loving nieces and nephews with children; and too many caring friends to list.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother; brother Cecil and wife Lucille; sister Doris and husband Tony Belshan; mother and father-in-law Harvey and Cora Lau; sister-in-law Sharon Berg; brothers-in-law: Marshal Bighley, John Jenkins, Charles Gillard and Arlo Walk.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and at the church on Thursday for one hour before the service.
