The Joyce Matthies Dancers will present their 46th annual recital at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets will be available at the box office the day of the show 45 minutes before each performance.
The theme this year is Rhapsody in Dance.
The first section shows tap dance from the youngest dancers to the most advanced. The toe tapping music such as “I Want To Be Happy,” “Blue Room,” and “Ain’t She Sweet” is played by Benny Goodman, Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson.
The ballet section is all music from Tchaikosky’s ballet “Sleeping Beauty.” Seniors Macy Paul and Alysia Ness perform solos in the “Pas de Quatre.” The finale will be 16 ballet dancers performing to “The Sleeping Beauty Waltz.”
After intermission, many of the award-winning contest dances will be performed. This includes the Joyce Matthies Dance Ensemble, Junior Jazz Ensemble, Junior Ballet Ensemble, the Starlettes, the Tap Pack, the Charmers and solos by Katie Appel and Macy Paul.
The last section is all jazz from Selena Gomez to Bruno Mars and Aretha Franklin and songs like “I Who Have Nothing” and “Can’t Turn Me Loose.”
Members of the faculty are Matthies and Heather Sadauskis. Matthies choreographed the show. Charles Boentgen designed the lighting, and Nick Gosen is doing sound. Come and experience the joy of dance with the dancers’ 46th presentation.
