A London woman nearly lost more than her barn after it erupted in flames Monday morning.

London fire fighters extinguished the blaze shortly after 10 a.m. — before it could spread to another nearby barn and Lori Teresi’s house in London. While no people or animals were injured, Lori and her ex-husband and neighbor, Roy Teresi, estimate that they lost nearly $30,000 worth of property, including horse equipment and other property inside the barn.

The fire also burned the leaves off of a nearby tree, melted a power line to Lori’s home and melted the roofing on another barn. Roy said an ember from a brush fire must have caught the barn. He was in the yard installing fencing at the time but did not notice the fire until the barn was nearly engulfed in flames. Though the London Fire Department is right next door, the fire already took over the entire barn and burned it to the ground.

“By the time they got here, it was completely engulfed,” Roy said.

The barn was not insured.
