In combating the continuing need for the increase of services in Freeborn County, the Albert Lea Salvation Army is looking for volunteers.
The organization is asking for volunteers for the local third-annual Doughnut Days May 18 and 19. They will man many locations across Albert lea, collecting contributions that will go toward providing services to local residents.
The volunteers will be given a “doughnut box,” and much like at Christmas time, will politely ask for any contributions to help offset the deficit.
“The Salvation Army will continue to serve those in need throughout Freeborn County and areas around the world,” said Capt. Jim Brickson, corps officer and administrator. “We have to continue to be prepared for the ever-changing demands in our services each day.”
According to a news release, the Salvation Army is pushed into diversifying its overall fundraising efforts. New grants are being researched and applied for, but the funds will only be available in the future. The idea of a Doughnut Day is not new, rather it has deep roots as far back as World War I.
National Doughnut Day honors the Salvation Army lassies of WWI. It is also used as a fundraiser for needy causes of the Salvation Army.
To volunteer, people can call the Salvation Army at 507-373-5710 or stop by the Albert Lea Citadel at 302 Court St.
