ALDEN — Students from kindergarten age right up to seniors will strut their stuff in the annual Alden Idol event, which will be 7 p.m. May 24 at the school.

There are 16 acts split up into three divisions which are the kindergarten through fifth-grade division, sixth- through eighth-grade division and ninth- through 12th-grade division.

“Dancing is quite popular this year,” teacher Ada Theusch said. “We will see several skits in the show.”

Theusch said all the skits are comedies that were written by the students themselves. Donations will be accepted as there is no admission to the show. Proceeds will be used to defray the cost of the show.

Before the show and during its intermission the music department will sell hot dogs from the Conger Meat Market and chocolate malts. Theusch said the students are thankful for community members and businesses who donated to the event.

The show is judged by members of the senior class and prizes will be awarded to winners. Masters of ceremony are Chrissy Reindal and Levi Miller. Theusch said the two students have plenty of experience in front of crowds and will do well at keeping the crowd entertained and keeping the show moving along.

Acts include Isabelle Brown singing “This Is Me,” Megan Linn playing “Freedom’s Road” on clarinet, Alexis, Chris and Jackson Martens performing a skit title “Fortune Teller — Prison,” and more. Theusch said Cassie Gilster, who won her division in 2011, is back with a vocal solo, “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, and 11th-grader Shawna Johnson will dazzle the crowd with her dance “Thunder.”

“It’s a great night of entertainment for the whole family,” Theusch said.
