Memorial services for Marlys Kathleen Jean, age 84, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mark Niethammer will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Marlys died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Marlys Kathleen Jean was born on Aug. 20, 1927, to Orton and Harriet (Liane) Bolstad in Fargo, N.D. She moved with her family to Iowa Falls where Marlys graduated in 1945. On Dec. 27, 1946, Marlys was united in marriage to Warren O. Jean at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple came to Minnesota in 1950. Marlys worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell and later as a nurse’s aide at Naeve Hospital. She enjoyed watching golf, tennis and most sporting events, doing crossword puzzles and watching reality TV. Marlys treasured the time spent with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all.

Survivors include her husband, Warren of Albert Lea; children, Vonnie Runkle of Urbandale, Iowa, Chuck Jean of Waterloo, Iowa, Mike Jean of Alamosa, Colo., Tom (Mary) Jean of Mankato, Bob (Rhonda) Jean of Eyota, and Sharon (Glen) Twernbold of Chatfield; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Orton Bolstad and Harriet (Liane) Deichert; sister, Evonne England; sister-in-law, Lenore Bauldry; brothers-in-law, Cleo Bauldry and Clinton Hanson; and son-in-law, Charles Runkle.
