MINNEAPOLIS — A jury has convicted a 19-year-old man of shooting at two Minneapolis police officers who were sitting in their squad car.
Malo Gomez was convicted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s office said it will ask the judge to sentence Gomez consecutively on the attempted murder charges. Under state sentencing guidelines, he faces 15 years in prison for each attempted murder count.
The officers were in their squad car last July filling out paperwork when they heard bullets hitting their car.
Under questioning, Gomez admitted that he fired the shots because he was bored. Sentencing is set for July 20.
