Twins focused on pitching in early rounds of draft

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins have been collecting college pitchers in the early rounds of the amateur draft.
The Twins had seven of the first 130 picks, and they took five pitchers. In the second round Tuesday, they selected left-hander Mason Melotakis of Northwestern State University in Louisiana at No. 63 overall and right-hander J.T. Chargois from Rice University in Houston at No. 72.
In the third round, the Twins picked outfielder Adam Walker of Jacksonville University in Florida, a native of Milwaukee whose father was a running back for the Minnesota Vikings in 1987. In the fourth round, they chose right-hander Zach Jones from San Jose State University in California.
The first Minnesotan picked was right-hander Mitch Brown of Rochester Century High School, by the Cleveland Indians at No. 79 overall.
