MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Purdue forward Robbie Hummel in the second round of the NBA draft with the 58th overall pick.
Hummel averaged 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds last season, but has struggled with two tears of the ACL in his right knee. He missed the end of the 2009-10 season after the first tear and all of 2010-11 with another tear.
The Timberwolves did not have a first-round pick after sending the 18th choice to Houston for veteran swingman Chase Budinger earlier this week. Team president David Kahn did make several efforts to trade up on Thursday night but never found the right deal to make.
They ended up staying put to take Hummel, who worked out at Target Center earlier this summer.
