NORTHWOOD, Iowa — Benjamin Lau is new to the entertainment lineup at the Worth County Fair.
The fair starts today and ends Sunday.
Lau will perform in the shelter house at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. He is from Garner, Iowa, and began teaching himself how to play the guitar at age 10. He recently moved to St. Paul to further enhance his music career and record his first record.
The Worth County Fair will also have some popular artists returning from last year.
On the opening day of the fair, today, Dueling Pianos performs inside the shelter house at 7:30 p.m. The pedal pull will be going on during Dueling Pianos, outside the shelter house.
The theme for the fair this year is “A Fair for All Ages,” so there will be different activities going on at the same time throughout the week for all ages to take part in, said Mary Clagett from the Worth County Extension Office.
New this year is a Lego competition. It is at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The competition will be at the south end of the 4-H Exhibit Building. The Lego competition will be between school teams and a 4-H team.
“It is interesting to watch programmed Lego robotics,” Clagett said. “It also promotes science and technology.”
Hitchville will be performing at 7: 30 p.m. Thursday in the Grandstand. Hitchville is country music group who has opened for Kenny Chesney, Sugarland and this year Toby Keith.
Austin Big Band will perform in the shelter house at 7:30 p.m. Friday and the tough truck challenge will be at the same time in the Grandstand. Austin Big Band is a 17-piece jazz band from Austin that plays a wide range of music from big band classics to contemporary jazz.
There will be free caricature drawings from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Along with Lau on Saturday, the annual tractor pull will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Grandstand.
Sunday will begin with a church service at the shelter house at 9 a.m. The annual demolition derby is at 5:30 p.m. in the Grandstand and the fair will conclude with a dance from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The purchase of a $10 booster button will include free entrance to the fair, admission to all Grandstand events and free parking the entire week of the fair.
