Parade is not a fundraiser

I would like to clarify an issue that Keith Porter raised in his letter to the editor regarding the Third of July Parade.
The parade is not a fundraiser for the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce. Most of the entry fees are used to contract paid entertainment and to pay prize money back to the participants. A very small amount is used to cover the expenses of the parade, but all of the chamber labor is freely given.
There have been years where the parade has lost a small amount of money, but we continue to believe that it is a service that we gladly perform for the community.
