You Can Help

These are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Freeborn County Environmental Services: A variety of tasks are available for volunteers at the hazardous waste collection sites: open paint cans, direct traffic, record names, help unload vehicles. Upcoming dates are July 14, 19 and 24. The sites are Albert Lea, Twin Lakes and Oakland. You’ll get further information by calling 377-5186.
Freeborn County Fair helpers: Let’s go to the Freeborn County Fair and help on Senior Day, Aug. 1, as a wheelchair escort around the grounds with residents of St. John’s Lutheran Home. Please call Carla Reichel at 473-1028 for details; there will be no cost to the volunteers.
Senior companions/respite: Be a friend to a frail senior, helping in various ways like visiting, shopping, taking to medical appointments, etc. Commitment is for 15 hours a week; those who meet income guidelines get a stipend in addition to mileage reimbursement. Nancy Halverson at Senior Resources can get you connected by calling 377-7433.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
