Art on Broadway to hold Meet the Artist reception

Art on Broadway at the Albert Lea Art Center is pleased to present Doug Holmes as their featured artist for the month of September.

The public is invited to attend a Meet the Artist reception for Holmes at the art center from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Refreshments will be served.

Holmes works with wood, metal and other materials to create artistic and functional items.  Wood turning is a passion that started in the mid-1960s. He continues to explore the fascinating array of woods that nature has to offer.  The colors and grain of the wood are of endless variety and bring new wonder with the creation of each piece of art. An engineering background brings a certain precision to the work. The engineering side is sometimes in conflict with the artistic side. That conflict generates solutions to facilitate the creation of the artistic ideas. Although currently focusing on turned items such as pens, bottle stoppers, seam rippers, bowls and letter openers, Holmes also builds decorative boxes, furniture, display cases, kitchen and other household items. His work is available from his home studio and at arts and craft shows.
