Thousands in cell phones taken from Walmart

Sixteen cell phones, estimated at $8,600 in value, were reported stolen from behind a counter at Walmart, 1550 Blake Ave., at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday. Police stated two males took the phones at about 4:30 a.m., left the building through an emergency exit, then got into their vehicle and quickly left.
Albert Lea Police Lt. Jeff Strom stated a similar incident took place at a Walmart in Hudson, Wis. In that instance, there was about $16,000 in cell phones taken.
The two thefts are believed to be connected.
The incident is still under investigation.
Man arrested for DWI
Police arrested Eric Stephen Gonzales, 21, for fourth-degree driving while intoxicated at 1:12 a.m. today after receiving a call that an unoccupied vehicle had been hit in front of 1111 Plainview Lane, reports stated.
