Gladys Juveland, 99, Lake Mills

Gladys B. Juveland, 99, of Lake Mills, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with the Rev. Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will take place in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Scarville, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Gladys Beatrice (Martinson) Juveland was born Oct. 7, 1912, on the Martinson Homestead in the log house that her grandfather built in Norway township, Winnebago County, Iowa, the daughter of Johanna Holstad and Henry I. Martinson. She was baptized at Lime Creek Lutheran Church, rural Emmons and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church.

On Feb. 27, 1935, she was united in marriage to Melvin Gerhardt Juveland at the parsonage in Forest City, Iowa, by the Rev. J.A.M.Hinderlie. Melvin died in 1989. To this union four sons were born, Donavon, Roger, Ardell and Earl.

Gladys enjoyed the outdoors, helping with the farm chores. She also enjoyed baking and would have goodies on hand when friends and neighbors would drop by for lunch and visits. In her later years she couldn’t miss “Jeopardy” or “Wheel of Fortune.”

She is survived by sons: Donovan, Roger (Carol) and Earl (special friend Evelyn); grandchildren: Tamera (Mark) Alphs, Todd (Misty) Juveland, and Kristin (Dean) Colby; great-grandchildren: Donald Holtan, Jason (Abby) Holtan, Christopher (fiancée Lucia Rose) Alphs, Jessica and Jordan Colby, Johanna, Annika and Bjorn Juveland; and great-great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Allisya, Chelsey, Madison, Becca and Tori Holtan.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Johanna Martinson; her brothers: Ingvald (Pearl) Martinson and George Martinson; her husband Melvin; son Ardell; daughters-in-law: Louella, Edna and Lorraine Juveland; and a granddaughter Nancy and her husband Terry Holtan.

Gladys will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
